KING
Four players. Seven contracts. Twenty rounds.
Every hand, a new rule.

No Tricks
each trick −50Take no tricks at all. Every trick you win scores against you.

No Hearts
each heart −30You cannot lead hearts until hearts have been broken.

No Queens
each queen −100Stay away from all four queens.

No Jacks/Kings
each jack/king −60Keep the jacks and kings away from you.

Last Two Tricks
each one −180Avoid taking the 12th and 13th tricks.

King of Hearts
−320The king of hearts is the heaviest penalty. If you cannot follow suit, all your hearts are playable.

Trump
each trick +50The only positive contract. Trump beats every suit, but cannot be played on the first trick.
Trump — four suits, eight rounds.
Eight of the twenty rounds are Trump. Everything you were avoiding is reversed: here the goal is to take as many tricks as you can.

Trump beats every suit
If you cannot follow suit you must play a trump; if a trump is already on the table and you hold a higher one, you must beat it.
No trump on the first trick
On the first trick of a round, trump can neither be led nor played — unless trumps are all you hold.
Not led until broken
You cannot lead with trump until a trump has been played. The one exception: if you hold the A, K and Q of that suit, you are free to.
You choose the contract.
In King no two rounds are alike — because someone at the table sets the rule.
- 1The dealer rotates — a different player each round.
- 2The dealer chooses that round's contract.
- 3The choice is made only among contracts whose quota is not yet filled.
- 4After twenty rounds every contract has been played exactly as many times as its quota.
Match Quota
20 roundsEach penalty contract is played twice, and Trump twice for each of the four suits.
Four seats, one table.
